I know that I would fight so that my family could always live free and I know that I live my life, not to judge others but to instead prosper under a government who tries their best (even at their worst) to keep us a World Power and safe from tyranny of any kind. I usually can't sit through a war movie, I have a heart that I not only wear on my sleeve but also as a belt, heels, and a really nice bag. It is so easily read that not even the blind are hidden from my feelings. When I see someone hurt, I hurt. When I see children in pain, my heart bleeds. So why sit through Taking Chance? I don't know. It just happened to be on and I thought, I'll just see what happens. The waterworks were on throughout the movie so prepare to have tissues and someone to hang your head on when it gets too much.

HBO's Taking Chance is about a Lt. Col. Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon), a self-proclaimed "number cruncher", who volunteers to escort a fallen soldier, Lance Corporal Chance Phelps to his final resting place. By the description alone you almost yawn, in a world of high-tech gadgets, interplanetary adventures, and risque love affairs, where does a movie like this fit in as entertainment? You'll have to see it to know. It will grab you by your throat and not let you go till you feel like it's telling the story of your son, your neighbors daughter, the pianist from church's nephew or anyone you have even slightly been assoiciated with that has been killed in battle. So few words are spoken, but it is the images of faces, body language, earthly beauty, and respect in death that you will break into tears and sob as if you had lost the same soldier as the Phelps family had. America is full of patriotism. You might not always notice it, but it is strong and fierce and will rear its head again if ever threatened. America knows the price that our armed forces pay and in Taking Chance it is evident that our souls are sullen in the face of the fallen. I don't want to go into too much detail about the trip, the journey one soldier makes to deliver the body of another. You really need to experience it for yourself. Just don't expect special effects, fancy camera work, or quirky expressions, all that you will find is a faceless but oh so familiar young man who died for our country and to protect his fellow soldiers and the Lt. Colonel who decided he would be honored to travel alongside him (even sleeping in the air cargo terminal ) to protect him, and make sure that even in death his uniform was perfect, his family was comforted in their time of need. I loved this movie. I so often forget to thank those who serve in the military so I'll take this opportunity now. Thank you brave men and women, who keep my children, my family, and my country safe. I will forever be indebted to you and may you live, love, and last till peace is at hand. We truly love you!

MOMeO, Freebies, Frugal Talk and Being a Follower

As some of you know i have recently become a Twit of crazy proportions. The time I spend on it is what is crazy. The best thing about it is the Social Networking aspect and the instant friendship that is developed when you start to follow people who are your "sisters and brothers from other mothers" :p I feel a part of something greater than just the everyday life of wife and mother, and I can tel you now that is a GREAT feeling.

A few of the amazing things I have discovered in the short week I have been a part of Twitter are listed below:

1: MOMeO the site for Mompreneurs. How cool is that? A site for all of us who have BIG ideas and want some guidance. Well now we have a place to go. Tonight is a second kind of house warming site for them and trust me I will be there!

2: Freebies. Who doesn't want things for free? Or even mostly free? Some cool moms and dads list everything from free food, free products, free services, and even ways to free up your time! Most excellent! Go now, join, and feel more free than ever! www.twitter.com

3.Frugal Talk. With the economy the way it is everyone is talking about saving money. Coupons rule so many of the people's blogs these days and it couldn't make me happier. In a lot of instances they do the work for you to. Telling you how to stack coupons, shop CVS and Walgreens, get free shipping, and just live for the day. One of my favorites is @5dollardinners I wish I could feed my family for 5$ a meal, and guess what this month I'm trying it!!

4. Being a Follower. Sounds bad huh? But it's not...not if you're following good people and I am, real good people, with good idea, deep inspirations, diverse aspirations but most of all they all seem to have pretty good heads on their shoulders. If this is what makes up Twitter than I'm hooked and happy to be so. If you have yet to use Twitter, try it..you'll like it..you just might love it..just be careful it will suck you in and the next thing you know you will be saving money and who knows you just might be helping someone save the planet!! IT could happen. I knew i had to go out and get some necessities. Plus with KMart having double coupons this week I definitely needed to fish out my stash and use them before they expired. Everything is organized in a little pouch. It shouldn't be too hard to stick to only what I need or at least that's what we like to tell ourselves. My first stop was actually to Peebles. I had bought a pair of Adidas that mistakenly were rung up at the same price as a cute little jacket I had bought for my daughter. So in essence I paid for the jacket twice and the shoes not at all. I thought I must be getting some kind of amazing sale price that I had no idea was happening and headed home without looking at the receipt. Once at home I started to tuck my receipt away when I found out the mistake. $35 dollar in my favor mistake. The guilt overwhelmed me, I felt as if I had almost stolen them! So I took the receipt in showed the mistake and paid them the remainder of the monies that were owed. Ugh! I feel like I paid for them twice! But honesty is always the best policy and let's not forget the Golden Rule. So my No Spend Day started with me spending money I shouldn't have had in the first place. It can't get much worse right? Well, then I was off to CVS. I had a coupon for $5 off a $15 purchase and needed band aids, hairspray, some Cold EZE, and a few other items. I told myself to not go over $15 by too much cause I didn't want the trip to be much more than a $10 pit stop. Let's just say I got sucked in by the whole carrot dangle of ECB's and ended up spending $27. Granted I did get $8 ECB but that's still twice as much as I had planned on spending! I bought some lotion I didn't need, candy that I shouldn't eat, and low dose aspirin that I never use! NOOOOO, I miserably failed on day 2! I am so weak! I'm not going to start over though, I'm just going to mark that day as a complete wash out and try harder. The sad thing is with this being Day 3 I went to Walmart with my Nana and had picked up unessential items and had them in my basket. You know like marshmallows, a video, m&ms, and portable wet wipes. I didn't end up paying for them because my Nana insisted she buy them. So I technically had a No Spend Day, but it could have been another failure day.....what's wrong with me? I'm going to bed telling myself that I WILL NOT SPEND A DIME tomorrow and hopefully this time I'm not lying!! But maybe just to make sure I won't leave the house again! HA HA!!

Day Two of the No Spend Challenge

I find that I go in phases. One moment I am very motivated to save and release myself from the shackles of debt the next moment I am 4 hands deep in a shopping cart of "bargain items" I never would have purchased if they were not on sale. So yesterday was cake, my motivation is still strong and flowing. To keep myself from spending wantonly, I just didn't leave the house. I'm not saying go into solitary confinement, but instead do not go to Wal-Mart just to get out of the house, always go with a list, and make sure that you stick to the list. Way # 2 that I kept myself from spending is I also did not go to any retail internet sites. I kept my wandering keyboard firm on Twitter, Yahoo, and Facebook. This of course kept me from all the fabulous sales that are going on throughout the neti-verse but I REALLY don't have a want or a need out there for anything at this present time and why set yourself up to fail? Recently, I saw an article by Frugal Dad about removing all your saved credit cards from your shopping profiles so when you want to buy something you actually have to work to get it and it's not at the click of a button. That's my plan for the day! I'm off to erase my ease of spending and hide a few of my credit cards here and there. I have also decided to include a little sticky note on each one that reads "Do you REALLY need that? Is it WORTH going into debt for?" Hopefully that little reminder will be enough to keep me from spending money on things that are not necessary for survival. Wish me luck!

The No Spend Challenge

So I have decided to get out of debt, like so many other Americans in this economically infertile world, and so I have looked into the wisdom of other mothers, fathers, gurus etc. to lead the way. I have found so many resources on Twitter (@prncsspurdylily) that my head is spinning with glee. Not only have I saved probably over $150.00 in 2 days on purchases I would have made anyway at some time or another but I spent less than $20.00 doing it!! I had heard of woman who could live an entire month feeding a family of 5 for under $200.00 with change to spare and laughed at the idea. I didn't think I had the time to look in to it. What I found out was I could not afford NOT to. Sooooo today is the day I start my No Spend Challenge put forth on Twitter by @momadvice and I will see if I can spend an entire week, than two weeks, three and so on of spending NOTHING but the essentials. I will spend my days clipping coupons, perusing websites, and living on Twitter in hopes that I may even SAVE on the things I find essential. If it's a competition you want than you've got it! Look out world I'm playing the game and I don't like losing!

Crazy is as Crazy Does...

I sit here on my fugly couch and I can't help but think. I'm not truly thinking about anything in particular and of course this makes me think even more. Why do I not have anything on my mind? I should. I should be worrying about my husband in Savannah helping with the power outage and mini underground gas explosion. I should worry about my kids and whether or not everything is just perfect with them. (We all want our kids to have perfect lives that's why we try so hard, and fail usually) I should worry about the baby and whether or not she's getting enough vitamins. And I'm sure you think I should worry about all kinds of world and environmental issues too right? Well... I'm not. I'm completely at peace. I don't know why. Perhaps this is where Christ is carrying me and there is only the one firm set of footprints in the sand. Or maybe it's just because I know everything usually turns out just fine and it's all out of my control anyways. I have these dreams floating through my head of what to do next. I'm going to school to be a teacher but in the mean time and even as I am teaching I'd like to throw myself a creative bone also. I want to design...not rooms but clothes, art pieces, jewelry, bags, shoes. I want to write a book, illustrate it myself and have it published. I want to have a gallery showing of my photos. I want to go to New Zealand just so I can build the greatest sand castle ever. I want to kiss my husband every night and feel like it's the first time (I love him endlessly) I want to look at myself and not want for anything. (Sometimes I think I need to lose weight, I know it's stupid but insecurity runs in my race, the human race that is) I have a lot of wants but I NEED to get with it. Believe me I can and will do most of these things. No, I'm not overly confident..I'm realistic. There has never been anything in my life that I truly wanted to do that I haven't so far. Now if I were to die tomorrow I would just have made a liar out of myself. It is true that not all things have come when I wanted them to but they have come in time as will these wants. Call me crazy, maybe I am, but let's just see what this crazy ends up doing in the next couple of years! I'll be smiling and waving from my entourage! Don't hate

The Best Pizza EVER

SO I was hungry for something new. I've been on this foodie craze lately, you know eating strange things, making strange things. I've made sweet pickled banana peppers, hot pepper jelly, and white cherry preserves all whic turned out extremely well! Now here comes the pizza part. I love Hawaiin, yum to the ham and pineapple but Iwas feeling adventurous yesterday and went for what I call Hot For Hawaiians. This pizza is ham, pineapple, onion, mushroom, jalapeno, and provolone cheese mixed in with the regular mozarella. It was heaven in your mouth! The jalapenos set afire your tastebuds so everything else was extra dreamy. The pineapple sweetened up the pot and whammo this is the new favorite of my pizza tastees. Try it and if you love the sweet hot stuff you're guaranteed to love this. I got mine from Dominoes. Build your own pizza it was a little pricey but worth it allthe same. I'm sure you can get any of yur local pizzola places to throw one under the fire for you. Just tell them you want a Hot for Hawaiins and see what they say :P

Batteries!!!

You know it's suspicious when you take your kid to Wally World to spend his birthday money and the toy he picks out has these great attractive colors. You know the box i'm talkin about, it screams to the rugrats that inside this package is the most amazing toy they will ever play with! I of course wanted to read all about this amazing spectacle of childhood myself but as I perused the box there was no mention of needing batteries. Of course that was the thing you would first look for when it comes to unbelievably incredible toys right? No mention at all ! So I handed the box to my husband and asked him what he thought. We both decided just to wait til later to buy batteries after we opened it and that way we weren't spending anything we didn't have to! With the price of gas the way it is these days every penny helps. Oh I have not seen my little five year old so excited since, well yesterday but he's five excitement is so common at that age. The box was ripped open before we walked in the door and the instructions were handed over. WHAT!!!!! Much to my chagrin the toy was in need of 12 batteries! I
lie not, tis the truth I speak! I know I should've taken it back right? But you also know why I didn't, that smilin' little boy that was lookin up at me. It wasn't his fault I didn't check first so I couldn't punish him. It's been a good nine years since I've done anything but trim my hair really. Today I took the leap out of my comfort zone. Instead of the average flowing flocks I had, I wanted something short, edgy and just plain different from what I had been. You see, the hair often makes the woman. What my hair said was "Honey, you think you're not pretty enough to carry off anything but wanna-be-model hair. So I went with the wanna-be a French super spy instead. And amazingly with the new hair out jumped this new sexy me. I know it was there all along but somehow it had turned into "I'm a mom and I have to behave like June Cleaver". Well, I'm pretty sure those scissors were magic because I feel different. Not just because I look different but because it awakened something inside me. The old me that said "Do it!" and I did and off fell 6 inches to the floor! That's the kind of adventure you don't get to o on everday and trust me it's just a sampling of the new, but somehow old, but you can't misake it if you tried, ME!

A Need To Address the Address Problem

Have you ever been looking for a place of business and noticed that less and less places are actually posting the numbers to there address in conspicuous locations? It drives me nuts! I was in downtown Savannah on Friday and had several locations I had to go to. Not familiar with the locations I ended up doing so many U-turns I thought I was turning into the latest HotWheels track. Uggh! And anyone who knows me knows I like to be "in the know" it's a power thing a lot of women have it :p Anyways I would see the number 10914 then I wouldn't see another listed address until I was at 7497. Now the address I was searching for of course was right in between those. BUT WHERE! WHERE! I wish it was like in the movies... follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road, follow follow follow follow..... yeah you get the picture. And at the end of that road was my destination all pretty and glowing in emerald twinkles, with a technicolor horse hanging out in front just to welcome me! Or maybe I should break down and invest in a TomTom or Garmin. All I have to say is if I go GPS he better have the sexy voice of a british superspy that lulls me into a hypnotic calm because otherwise if Im in the wrong lane and he tells me to turn left I just might end up throwing TomTom to the CurbCurb and that's that! Now post your flippin addresses people or else you may miss out on a lot of customers who decide you are just too hard to find and hit up the big green shiny building instead!

Not Just For Books Anymore

I am an avid fan of our public library and enjoy going on a regular basis. If I could buy all the books I wanted to read I would still go to the library just for the atmosphere and peace it brings. I was at the counter checking out my books and noticed the library was just buzzing with people. It was literally packed. I made a comment to the librarian that it was great to see so many people in the library. She commented back "It would be excellent if they were actually here to read books, they're here for "other" reasons." And she pointed at the computers. Hmm... I'm not sure how I feel about that. As a children's librarian of a few years ago I know that the number of patrons we had helped us get larger budgets if we had more people visiting than usual. And during the summer hours we always had tons of people in. I think that the fact that the library offers internet service is awesome. Just because you can't afford it shouldn't mean you are lost to ever feel its potential. I think what the librarian should be thinking instead of the fact they should be reading books is that at LEAST they are reading something . Whether it's yahoonews, ANTM, email, or Facebook at least they are reading. It means they can read. I personally like to go and read the latest issues of magazines. I can't afford a subscription to the tons I like to read so instead, I go to the library and peruse their shelves. And at the same time I'm helping the planet by not growing an unending pile of outdated issues in my living room :p What I'm really trying to say is I'm thankful for the library no matter what, who, or where, and in truth and fact it's not just for books anymore!

Swimming With Dolphins

I love the beach. I was never much of a beach goer until I moved to the East Coast and now I hate to think of ever being away from it. Today we went to our regular place on Jekyll Island and like always for about two hours had the entire beach to ourselves. The find of the day were the horseshoe crabs! Anywho I digress... So we like this part of the beach not only for the solitude but because of how close the dolphins like to swim near you. Four feet maybe was the distance, a mother and baby swam by us today. It's amazing! But it got me thinking, are they as thrilled to be in our pressence as we are in theirs. I can see it now that dolphin mother chattering to her little one, " Look! Wow they are so close, isn't that cool? Those are called humans, they live on land and swim for FUN! That's just silly isn't it" And as they pass us that chit chittering they do is them laughing and having a grand old time experienceing whatever life throws their way also, just like the kids and I did today. I have grown to value everyday. Whether I'm lying on the couch with children piled around me or I'm watering the garden as my husband looks on , holding baby Lori on his shoulders, It's all good, even the bad has it's use, just to prove how great everything else is right and teach us a lesson in humility here and there :p I can honestly say I will as long as the Dolphins let me, swim as close as I can, and in the end maybe we'll both swim away with a better experience and a big grin!

How Did I Not Know?

I feel foolish! I am not a TV junkie by any means but there was a time when I lived for X-Files! I even had the music inspired by X-Files CD. I thought it sucked big time but the theme for the series was on it and it was completely hypnotic. So now there is an X-Files movie coming out July 25! Yeah I know I didn't know either! Soooo what I'm trying to figure out is ....is this some kind of ploy? Some trick that aliens are using to get us into a theater so they might just teleport, beam, or whatever us into their ship, all at once, and we will forever be zoo attractions in their couch potatoes and geeks exhibit? Don't get me wrong I hear it's the hottest area of the whole park but I feel trapped enough in some kind of unwritten reality I really don't need zookeepers telling me when I can eat and I sure don't want a good hose down instead of a shower. What I'm really trying to get at though is where the HECK was the hype!? I've been waiting for the New X-Men Origins movie to come out for months and it won't be out till May of 2009!! (Sounds like I have a thing for the lettter X doesn't it?) Really, in our hayday of cliffhanging trailers why did I just tonight see the first trailer for the X-Files movie and even it was short and cryptic. Oh well, whatever it is it worked! I'm booked July 25, don't try and call me I will be busy, but until then I've got an old CD to dig out of the dust bunny retirement home. I can here it now and I am entranced!

Sound of Rolling Thunder

I'm sitting here, in the darkness of my room, and typing frantically. It's an addiction you know, the need to be doing something creative. I will try my best to be like Amy Winehouse and not go to rehab for it either. The thunder is rumbling in the background. It sounds like the Drum Gods have gotten together to try and put a medly of bass down for a new track they are working on with Lady Lightening. I love the sound. I can feel it humming through me. The power of thunder on our bodies is actually quite understated. Sure lightening can kill you but it's thunder that can scare the sass out of you one minute and the next be lulling you into a deep and dreamless sleep. My eyes are feeling listless and heavy as we speak. And only a second later it booms me into a reawakening, it's trying to tell me to finish it's Ode I guess. Wouldn't it be funny some day if we were to find out that clouds were actually some kind of flying cotton candy beast thats stomache was grumbling with hunger and so it had to search out the electric bolts of sugary goodness we know as a rather huge discharge of static (thats lightening for those who failed Phys Sci,)? It's not an opinion it's a fact. Men as a whole are overstimulated by their senses, they guide them in directions that for some reason most women are forbidden to go. (But some of us tread there occasionally anyway) As you all know the male and female race are wired differently, we think on different levels, feel on separate plains, experience on varying plateaus. With these differences it becomes clear it is also what separates the chefs from the cooks. I'll tell you right now I'm wired a little on the off side. I tend to not be afraid to act silly or be silly or just love the silliness in you but when it comes to my cooking I'm anything but silly. I'm darn good ! I can grab three ingredients from my pantry add some seasoning and you wouldn't recognize it but you would also have no problem eating it! I'm just a cook though, you see I don't care if my food looks beautiful just as long as it feels and tastes good to me. Now a chef is all about presentation. It has to taste good too don't get me wrong but what attracts him to the dish in the first place is the beauty behind the introduction. It's not so different in our love lives either is it? I love because of the way it makes my feel on the inside, most men (I said most now simmer down softies) look at the woman and say " hmm sure looks good" and from that comes the dreaded pick up line :P I don't think there is anything wrong with that I want the man who loves me to think I'm beautiful, I guess it's just the Narcissist in all of of us but once it progresses to the meal I want him to be satisfied with the whole dinner too. I can say I have been truly satisfied with my love life (don't make it dirty) I have taken all the ingredients that each had to offer mixed them all together and "Wa laaa!" a masterpiece of a man is usually staring back at me. You might not like it, but trust me on this one I've always been a DARN fine cook :)

The Sunset

Every now and then you get the little blurbs that ask you to fill in your favorites but never with nary a place to put Why you chose the answer you did well in th enext few days I'll explain the whys to your what do you like better questions.
The Sunset over the sunrise, not because I rarely see the sun wake the world, but instead because it is only the introduction to my new day. Nothing has happened yet , except the miracle of the rising sun itself, which is grand I know. But I adore the sunset. Even though the air is cooling it warms me from the inside out, to see the brilliant colors that radiate from the atmosphere and touch upon our eyes if only for a mere half hour or so is still exhillarating enough to make me swoon at the site of it. It is no wonder so many couples end up walking the beach in the shadows of the orange and purple sky, it is a natural aphrodisiac. I could watch dusk after dusk of a setting sun and never see the same sky twice. Even the trees and the hills sit quietly in the dark just so they may watch the solar theater that presents itself to them each late afternoon. There is no other favorite that quite compares to it, and I know if I were dressed in a gown made from a setting sun the moon would chase me every night too, it's just to beautiful to resist, so don't, walk outside, open your blinds, open your eyes and see the invitation to enter the night.

Hellboy Not So Hellish

Just the name in the title automatically turns some people off to the movie, I of course being a comic fan since my barely walking days, know that if they would just give it a REAL look they would see it has a message that can't be ignored. Even though Hellboy was born a red-bodied Demon he was found as a child and raised by the professor to be a "good man". Sure he has his little faults here and there like that crazy love for cats and pancakes, not together though, ewww! Anyways, Hellboy's job is to save us from those things that go bump in the night, you know the reasons why we're afraid of the dark. We of course return the favor by fearing him and as most humans do, hating the very ones who keeps us safe. Case in point, those who don't like cops usually don't like them because they or someone they know got caught doing something they weren't supposed to and instead of owning up and taking responsibility they blame the authority figure and it makes them feel as if they were in the right. So let's bring God in to this one too. A lot of people hate God because things have happened in their life that are beyond their control or because they have made bad choices and are now living with the consequences of their actions. God let's you make the choice good or bad he will not stand in your way but remember the choice will always be YOURS no one elses. Live with it or do something about it! He also can't save everyone, he could but he won't, those are our challenges to live with, his was to have his son SACRIFICED before him to save the very same people who were taking his son's life. Could you as a parent do the same thing? I don't think so. Back to Hellboy, I personally can't wait to see this movie! And to end my rant with a little bit of wisdom, don't label someone by how or who they were born to, if you love someone and raise them right hopefully they will be the "good man" you raised them to be. If not, don't feel bad, in the end the lesson learned is that we are good because we want to be not because we HAVE to be.
